On Wednesday, September 28, 2011 Mr. Kelly Jones and Coach Mark Carroll of Denham Springs High School appeared before the LHSAA Executive Committee to request that throwing to be added to the baseball pre-season strength and conditioning program.  Mr. Jones’ request is as follows:

10.2.1  Pre-season
For the two week period prior to practice officially starting, a school is permitted to also throw and condition as part of the strength and conditioning workouts after school.  This throwing is limited to warming up and long toss.  Bullpen workouts and infield/outfield drills are not allowed during these workouts.
The Executive Committee approved the request for the 2011-2012 school year only and also extended the request to allow softball to include throwing in the strength and conditioning program.  Therefore, softball programs are able to start a throwing program as outlined in the above rule on Monday, January 2, 2012 and baseball programs will be able to begin throwing on Monday, January 9, 2012.

Please note if the above rule is violated by starting prior to the above dates or goes beyond what is allowed that the school will be fined for being in violation of these sports season rules and the school will be placed on restrictive probation for one calendar year.
