The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) is excited to announce the continuation of the Beyond the Game Sportsmanship Program to recognize and commend those that radiate sportsmanship on and off the field. This year’s program will include three components: a Sportsman of the Month, an essay contest and the overall Sportsman of the Year.

The Sportsmanship Spotlight of the Month recognizes an individual each month of the academic year beginning in October. All LHSAA member-school student-athletes, coaches, faculty, boosters, officials and fans are eligible to be nominated for this prestigious honor. Anyone may submit nominations by filling out a submission form found under the Sportsmanship section of our website by the 15th of each month. Winners will be announced the first of each following month and will be featured on the LHSAA website and Facebook page. Each monthly winner is also eligible to win the overall Sportsman of the Year, who will be recognized at the 2014 LHSCA Coaches Clinic in July.

The Beyond the Game Essay Contest is open to all LHSAA member-school students. Students should explain in their own words how they go Beyond the Game in sportsmanship. Essay submissions should follow the topic: “What is a good sportsman?” The winner will receive $500 and recognition at the annual LHSCA Coaches Clinic. The official guidelines and submission information can also be found on our website under the Sportsmanship section.

The LHSAA thanks all member-school athletic programs for continuing to encourage student-athletes to be the best sportsmen they can be. If you have any questions or concerns about the program, please contact Communications Consultant Renee Trimble at or 225.300.4202.
