BATON ROUGE, LA (Sept. 30, 2012) — The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced recently that it has reached an agreement with the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau for Monroe-West Monroe to host the 2013 1A and 2A state baseball championships. The state championship tournament will be played May 10 - 11, 2013 at Warhawk Field at the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM).
“We are extremely excited to work with the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring the 2013 1A and 2A state baseball championships to the northeast section of our state,” said LHSAA Executive Director Kenny Henderson. “We would like to thank them for their continued support of LHSAA championship events and are thrilled to have them host two days of exciting high school baseball finals.”
“The Monroe-West Monroe community is honored to be hosting this great LHSAA state championship,” said Scott Bruscato, director of convention and sports marketing for the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We welcome the opportunity to provide an outstanding baseball championship for the student-athletes, coaches, administrators, media and spectators at Warhawk Field on the campus of University of Louisiana-Monroe.”
The 1A and 2A state baseball championships were originally scheduled to be played in Ruston, La. Because of a scheduling conflict that arose after the bid was awarded to the Ruston Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau, the tournament at that site was cancelled.
“We look forward to working with our partners at the LHSAA and want to thank the LHSAA Executive Committee for choosing Monroe-West Monroe as the host for the 1A and 2A state baseball championships,” said Bruscato.
Most recently, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a long-time community partner of the Monroe-West Monroe CVB, hosted the 2012 LHSAA regional girls’ and boys’ basketball semi-finals at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum on the campus of ULM.
