Marine Corps Hosts Semper Fidelis All-American Football Camp in New Orleans
Diamond Flight Camp focuses on quality character, physical fitness, and academic excellence
NEW ORLEANS, La. (July 31, 2012) – The United States Marine Corps (USMC) will host a two-day Diamond Flight Camp at Behrman Stadium, New Orleans, La., as part of its Semper Fidelis Football Program. Some of the most talented high school and junior high school football players in the state will develop skills not just important to football, but throughout life, such as leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork. Some of the camp’s most exemplary student athletes may be selected to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl this winter.
“The Diamond Flight Camp will engage promising young leaders from across Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi,” said Major Jonathan Hamilton, commanding officer of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Baton Rouge. “The Semper Fidelis Football Program is an opportunity for the Marines to engage and recognize high-achieving student athletes who demonstrate quality of character, excellence in education, and proven physical fitness. We look forward to participating and hopefully seeing some of the young athletes play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.”
The Diamond Flight Camps will take place in more than 20 cities across the country and are the first phase of the Semper Fidelis Football Program. The program reinforces Marine Corps’ values with America’s youth to illustrate how honor, courage, and commitment apply to success both on and off the field.
During the camp, former professional and college coaches and players will introduce expert football instruction and assessment while local Marines will offer leadership training. Marine Corps Drill Instructors from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. will conduct daily warm-ups and Marine Corps leadership will give seminars that instill pride, highlight character values, emphasize teamwork, and discuss community responsibility.
In its second year, the Semper Fidelis Football Program includes a series of youth football camps, an All-American Selection tour, and nationally televised Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl that collectively celebrates academic excellence, proven physical fitness, and quality of character.
