Gear up for Week Eight of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Thursday Night Football Game of the Week
Welcome back for another Thursday night of football. We had a great matchup last week with the
St. Charles Catholic Comets defeating the Franklinton Demons 35-6. Franklinton could not find their groove on offense while the Comets played outstanding defense, forcing four turnovers and capitalizing on all of them. After recording a shutout in the first half, the Comet offense was able to put 21 points on the board in the third quarter which sealed the win. Legendary coach Frank Monica and his staff are always a huge key to St. Charles Catholic’s success. Look for the Comets to be a major contender in the Division III playoffs down the road.
Heading into week eight, the Lafayette Lions (4-3) travel to face the Southside Sharks (4-3) in a game held at Teurlings Catholic. The game holds major playoff implications for both teams. Both the Lions and Sharks come into this contest with the same record and are looking to find win number five on the season.
Lafayette comes in on a two-game losing streak and is hungry for a win. The Lions will need to improve on both sides of the ball, as they gave up 40 points and only scored 19 points against Barbe last week. Southside is coming off of a loss against Sam Houston, where they fell behind early, but played really well late in the contest. Both offenses have the potential to score 30+ points, which they have done in multiple games this season. Tune in to see how both defenses respond to their opponents Thursday.
