LHSAA Releases Information Regarding Prep Classic Brackets, Schedule Changes & Ticket Information

BATON ROUGE, LA (Nov. 18, 2013) – The Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s (LHSAA) 2013 high school football playoff brackets were released last week. The top teams in the state will continue to battle for a state title in the 2013 LHSAA State Farm Prep Classic on December 12, 13 and 14 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La. This year’s championship will include significant changes to the Prep Classic schedule. With the addition of four new divisions, there will be nine games which, will be played over the course of three days. The times have been extended to allow more time between games. LHSAA Officials Cleared of All Charges

BATON ROUGE, LA (Oct. 17, 2013) — The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) was pleased to learn that Covington Mayor Mike Cooper and Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz announced this afternoon that they will request the District Attorney to drop the charges of public intimidation against high school officials James Radcliffe and Chris Gambino. These two dedicated football officials were arrested Friday night, October 11, 2013, during the football game between Mandeville and St. Paul’s, at St. Paul’s. The officials were charged with public intimidation and released from jail on Saturday morning after posting bail. LHSAA Releases Free, Mobile Smartphone Application

BATON ROUGE, LA (Oct. 10, 2013) — The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced earlier this week that it has released a free, mobile smartphone application – or “app.” The LHSAA along with app sponsor, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, worked in conjunction with Envoc design services to produce the organization’s first-ever mobile phone app for its many fans and supporters.  The LHSAA app presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is free and now available for download through the App Store in Apple’s iTunes or on your mobile Apple device. NFHS Rules Publications Now Available as E-Books

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (September 26, 2013) — Rules books and case books produced by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) are now available for purchase online in electronic-book format. The NFHS, which has written and published playing rules for high school sports throughout most of its 94-year history, is offering its rules publications in e-book format through iTunes for Apple users. In addition, the Kindle version is being sold on Amazon. High School Sports Participation Increases for 24th Consecutive Year

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 20, 2013) — Participation in high school sports increased for the 24th consecutive year in 2012-13 and passed the 7.7 million mark for the first time, according to the annual High School Athletics Participation Survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Based on figures from the 51 NFHS-member state high school associations, which includes the District of Columbia, sports participation for the 2012-13 school year reached an all-time high of 7,713,577 participants – an increase of 21,057 from the previous year. BATON ROUGE, LA (July 30, 2013) — The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced today that it has appointed Gary Duhe as Director of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA). Duhe previously served as a high school teacher and coach at St. Amant High School since 2000. Prior to 2000, he held positions as teacher/coach/athletic director at Central High, Plaquemine High, Bishop Sullivan, Trafton Academy, Central Private and Redemptorist. Duhe has served on the LHSAA’s executive committee from 2004 - 2006. He was also founder and first president of the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association and was the first inductee into its hall of fame. New Rules Regarding Electronic Devices Approved in High School Softball

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 3, 2013) — Two new rules regarding the use of electronic devices in high school softball were among the five changes approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Softball Rules Committee at its June 10-12 meeting in Indianapolis. All rules changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors. With the addition of Rule 1-8-6, team personnel are permitted to use electronic devices to transmit or record information pertaining to their players or team’s performances.
