Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Golf Championships - Schedule Change

Posted: 04-30-2016 | Categories: Golf - Boys, Golf - Girls

LAFAYETTE -- The LHSAA State Golf Championships, originally scheduled for Monday-Tuesday at three courses in the Acadiana area, have been postponed until Wednesday and Thursday due to wet courses and the anticipation of more inclement weather over the next three days.

The Lafayette organizing committee, in association with the LHSAA staff, made the decision Saturday afternoon after the Acadiana area received significant rain and was under tornado warnings Saturday morning. Forecasts are for 80 to 90 percent rain chances Sunday through Tuesday morning.

“We regret having to move our dates back,” said committee chairman Robert Boudreaux, “but with the forecasts being what they are, there’s a good chance the courses will be unplayable Monday and Tuesday. Delaying two days will create some hardships, but we want to stage the best event possible for our teams and student-athletes and we believe our best chance to do that is to begin play on Wednesday.”

Four boys’ divisions and two girls’ divisions will now begin competition Wednesday at 8 a.m., with the boys’ Divisions I and III tournaments at The Farm d’Allie, the boys’ Divisions II and IV tournaments at The Wetlands and the girls’ Divisions I and II tournaments at Les Vieux Chenes.

A total of 256 golfers are scheduled to take part in the event after qualifying for the state tournament during this week’s regional competition.

Tournament activities will now begin on Tuesday with practice rounds, if the courses are available, and the Tournament Welcome Banquet at 7 p.m. at the Wyndham Garden Hotel. Chuck Winstead, head coach of LSU’s reigning national champions, is scheduled as guest speaker, and LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine and Lafayette Parks and Recreation director and District 24 State Senator Gerald Boudreaux will also address the group.

Pairings and tee times previously announced for Monday will remain the same for Wednesday in each division. More information on rescheduled events is available through the LHSAA web site at http://www.lhsaa.org.
